This is a demo site
For the average person, if you want to write an article or blog, raw HTML and CSS is a great way to share information that is easily readable, sharable, and accessible.
If you do want a blog, why not use something like Substack, WordPress, or something else? There are several reasons why you might do it yourself:
- You can customize your site to look exactly how you want, without needing to pay for premium themes or customization features
- A lot of times you can't take your posts with you if you want to switch platforms
- If you depend on one of those cloud services, you run the risk of them deleting your content because they disagreed with it or you said something controversial
- You want to learn something new
Then there are some less obvious reasons:
- Handcoded websites load much faster (this demo page is over 1500x smaller than a post on Substack)
- You respect people’s privacy by not embedding invasive trackers and spyware
- Javascript isn't included by default
- Ad-free!
